Here is a really cool google mashup called gmap pedometer where you can enter a route you have walked and it will tell you how far it is and if you put in your weight, how many calories you burned.

Exercise makes you smarter

According to this article exercise can create new brain cells associated with memory. It also alludes to a day when doctors might start prescribing specific exercise to prevent memory loss.

Is it just me or does CNN not remember that old classic "Revenge of the Nerds". Those guys were smart and didn't really exercise. Also I don't think they have met some of the really healthy people in the world who are obviously suffering from some kind of brain damage. I'm really surprised that the report didn't declare that exercise gives you cancer, after all, doesn't everything these days ?

Alas poor Penang, I knew you well

Today was my last official Penang chicken curries which is one of my favourite Thai food dishes. The reason for this was that it was brought to my attention that coconut milk has insane amounts of fat in it. I mean who would have thought that milk from a plant would have fat ? It is like nature is playing some sort of cruel joke on us all ? And by us I mean me.

Anyway here is some random photo I found on the net. It isn't actually penang chicken curry but it is close enough for me to remember the love affair I once had with a great dish.

Rodneys Cooking Tips

What do you think the most overlooked cooking tip with regards to weight loss is ? I'll give you a hint, it's not to do with any specific food. Give up ? The answer is simple.

Cooking is a great excuse for getting off your bum. Spend all day in front of the TV ? Cook your dinner instead of getting take out. Stuck in front of a computer all day at work ? Get up and make your sandwich instead of getting take away.

By taking a pro-active approach towards making your food you are doing something rather than sitting around and so, you obviously burn more calories. How much ? I have no idea at all but it has to be enough to make up for that piece of Jarlsberg cheese I've been adding to my sandwiches...
